We strive to cater for them as healthily and as closely to home food as possible. We take it into consideration that there are allergies and religious reasons for some boarders not to eat some foods. We consider that and cater accordingly.Â
We strive to make sure they participate in sports as much as possible since all sports practices and games take place at our doorstep. We allow boarders to watch games taking place at school as well. It helps create that momentum for the school sides
All this has made school sports very strong over the years.
Â
We also strive to allow them to use their time as fruitfully as possible with us doing their laundry. We have cleaners cleaning their spaces. All they have to do is to keep their immediate spaces clean and neat and obey hostel rules.
Boarders are made to sign the code of conduct so that they know what is acceptable and what is not.
We teach them some dinning etiquette. During meals no cellphones can be used. They must interact in an orderly way and not to speak at the top of their voices.Â
We don’t allow them to use their loud speakers/Bluetooth speakers since we want the environment to be always conducive to self study at anytime. Any unreasonable noise is discouraged at all times.
Â
We have an hour and half of supervised preparation (homework) time where they are made to sit and do homework to make sure they don’t go back to school unprepared.Â
 Â
We have a school swimming pool where we take them on some hot days to enjoy themselves under a strict supervision of a trained teacher/s.
Sometimes we take them on a walk into the plantation under the supervision of teachers.Â
On some weekends we entertain them by having movies shown after supper on Saturdays.Â
The hostel is monitored by CCTV cameras on the price places. Not in dormitories and bathrooms.Â
The school sports field are accessible to our boarders even on weekends. Only they have to request before they go. And the school is also under CCTV cameras.Â
The hostel and school are secured and fenced off completely with the gate only operated by the teachers security guards. We have guards making sure school and hostel are secured 24 hours a day.Â
We have school teachers as masters and mistresses supervising our boarders who teach at our school. They help any boarder who struggles and comes to them for help.Â
We have enough spaces to allow outside tutors to come and help some boarders at the request of parents.
In 1978, the foundation for the Esterhuizen boarding house was laid. It took roughly 3 years to complete and in 1981, the Esterhuizen House officially opened its doors.
The Esterhuizen house was named after the principal of the old technical high school known as Linpark High School today.
The main aim of the boarding house was to provide accommodation to boys from the KwaZulu-Natal midlands that wanted to take a more technical approach to their education. Linpark High School has a more technical learning approach gearing students into careers such as engineering.
